The NIH's recently implemented Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy, effective January 25, 2023, mandates that all research supported by NIH funding must develop a data management and sharing plan. Similar requirements are being implemented by many other research sponsors to advance the pace and impact of scientific discovery. These policies aim to enhance transparency, accountability, and reproducibility in research by urging researchers to make their data widely accessible for reuse. Consequently, grant applications and progress reports must now include data management and sharing plans, and data must be promptly shared via established repositories.
The Bakar ImmunoX Initiative is committed to supporting the data management and sharing needs of its members and is introducing a Data Management & Sharing RFA to assist ImmunoX researchers in planning and implementing these requirements, including creating DMS plans that align with sponsor expectations. As such, the primary objective of this RFA is to ensure the long-term, high-quality curation, storage, and accessibility of research data while adhering to the new NIH guidelines and policies for the UCSF community. The RFA endeavors to aid the ImmunoX community in devising effective data management and sharing plans, preserving high-quality research data, and fostering responsible data sharing practices to advance science and promote the public good.
Applicants must be principal investigators in good standing with an ImmunoX lab at UCSF. Applicants must have a research project that generates scientific data that will be shared with the broader scientific community in accordance with the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy. The proposed research must align with the mission of ImmunoX to advance our understanding of the immune system and develop new therapies for human diseases. The data generated must be of high-quality, and the proposed data management and sharing plan must be in compliance with NIH guidelines and ImmunoX policies. The proposed project must be feasible within the proposed timeline and budget, and the applicant must demonstrate the necessary expertise and resources to carry out the proposed research.
A. Submission Requirements
Proposals must be submitted in accordance with the guidelines and instructions provided by ImmunoX. The proposal should include a description of the research project, the proposed DMS Plan (if completed), a detailed budget, and any necessary attachments or supporting documents. Proposals must be submitted by the designated deadline in order to be considered for funding.
B. Review Criteria
All proposals submitted in response to this RFA will be reviewed by the ImmunoX Office for Collaborative Research and the Data Science CoLab. Proposals will be evaluated based on their:
• Relevance to the goals of this RFA
• Relevance to the purpose of the Data Library
• Quality and feasibility of the proposed DMS Plan
• Timeline and feasibility of the proposed research plan
• Qualifications and experience of the research team
Applicants are required to prepare a detailed budget that includes all costs and number of hours (or FTE) associated with the proposed research, including costs for data collection, storage, and sharing. Please indicate the amount of expected number of hours (or FTE) required for the OCR Data Manager and DS CoLab Data Librarian for your project.
Additional special considerations or requirements, such as intellectual property policies, data use agreements, or human subjects protections, may apply to this RFA. Applicants should review all relevant policies and guidelines before submitting their proposal.
